Christa Murphy-Muir, LCSW,  is  a mental-health professional with over  15 years experience in the field.

Christa attended Hunter College School of Social Work and graduated with an MSW and an advanced certificate in therapeutic work with children and families. She started her career working with the developmentally disabled at Heartshare, a NYC based not-for-profit agency. Following that, she worked among teens and children with psychiatric diagnoses at the Child Center of NY/Queens Child Guidance Center. Her work with diverse clientele was furthered through her work in geriatric and palliative care by counseling seniors at the Cobble Hill Health Center. She has also worked for CUNY’s New York City College of Technology in career counseling and vocational placement.

For the past 5 years, Christa has been a play therapist and social worker at Birch Family Services working with children on the autism spectrum. It was here that she provided and moderated group therapy in the forms of social skills groups and parent support groups. In addition to this, she has served as a staff psychotherapist at a not-for profit mental health clinic and a private doctor’s office, both located in Queens.  In these practices Christa has worked with individuals and couples as well as children and their families. Many of the children she sees privately are on the autistic spectrum or have diagnoses of other psychiatric disorders.

Christa’s methodology integrates several different therapeutic models including: cognitive behavioral therapy, psychodynamic therapy and Naikan therapy(an Eastern philosophy based on self-reflection). Christa is interested in knowing the individual needs of each patient and prescribing a course of therapy based upon those needs. For her, it is essential to provide superlative therapy which means devoting time to patients’ individual needs.

Both she and her colleagues espouse a common philosophy regarding holistic clinical practices and an individualized approach to treating our patients at Queens West Health and Wellness.

Hourly Rate:  Rates vary on the types of services provided. A limited number of hourly slots are reserved for patients who require a sliding scale rate.

Insurance: Insurance is not accepted at this time, however, all services are reimbursable. Please check with your insurance carrier for details regarding out-of-network benefits. Documentation will gladly be provided for submission of claims.
